The Nature of the Conflict is an editorial project that is organized based on a specific consequence of the "post-conflict" in Colombia: the botanical expeditions carried out in former war zones. Since the signing of the Final Agreement for the Termination of the Conflict, 93 new species have been described that were not classified in botany books because they were located or endogenous to areas where violence prevented scientific work. For many in Colombia, these discoveries are a symbol of peace.
The botanical images of the found species mark the structure of the book, narrating episodes of the conflict and Colombian history through literary fragments, official texts and press extracts.
By confronting different types of knowledge and certain imaginaries, we seek to open a discussion about how nationalism, collective memory, national fictions and colonialist practices such as taxonomy and expeditions, which at first glance have a progressive character, have actually been the sustenance of the social differences and tensions that define contemporary Latin American societies.
